About the workshop:
Children and teens with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASDs) are at high risk for developing anxiety symptoms that interfere with daily life at home, school, and the community. Youth with ASD and anxiety demonstrate significant reductions in anxiety following participation in modified Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) interventions. Facing Your Fears is a group CBT intervention for managing anxiety in youth with ASD that can also be used in individual contexts. Effectively managing anxiety symptoms can help children and adolescents become more successful in academic settings and participate more fully in their daily lives.
This training is recommended for professionals working in autism clinics, school boards, mental health centres, and private practice who are interested in delivering the Facing Your Fears program.
Program: A morning coffee break, a light lunch, and afternoon coffee break for both days is included in the fee.
Day 1: offers an introduction to the topic, with specific discussion on the development of anxiety disorders in youth with ASD and applying CBT strategies to this population. Additional discussion will focus on modifying CBT for adolescents and youth with ASD and intellectual disabilities, and for school settings.
Day 2: core components of CBT will be discussed in detail, including psychoeducation and graded exposure. A session-by-session review of the program, as well as video examples and interactive small group activities will also occur throughout the training.
* We recommend that you purchase the Facilitator’s set (ISBN-10: 1598571788) and bring it to the training event to assist with the review of the program if you plan to deliver the intervention program. *
