Support Groups

The stress of COVID-19 and complying with social distancing can make people feel isolated, anxious, and worried for the future. Connecting with others in a safe space through a video conference is one way we can share experiences, feel heard, remain hopeful, and manage stress at this time.

Caregivers Converse Support Group

Research has shown that caregivers of children with autism experience challenges that can lead to stress and isolation. Finding the time to care for your own physical and mental well being, meet others, and speak about your experiences can be challenging. Facilitated by our social worker, our caregiver support group aims to empower caregivers of children with autism by creating a safe space where you can share your experiences, as well as gain understanding and support from other caregivers with similar experiences.

Support groups will be held on our WebEx video conferencing platform every Wednesday afternoon and evening on alternating weeks, covering the same topic for two weeks in a row. This is to ensure that the same topic is covered once during the day and once in the evening to accommodate work schedules.

Registration for each support group session opens one month in advance. See descriptions below.

The support group is free of charge.

Siblings Connect Support Group

Siblings of children with autism often experience unique challenges that their friends or family members may not recognize or understand. They may experience feelings of stress, of not being heard, or may have conflicted feelings about their sibling. This group is an opportunity for your child to connect with other children with similar experiences through activities and discussions facilitated by a registered social worker.

Support groups will be held on our WebEx video conferencing platform every Wednesday afternoon and evening on alternating weeks, covering the same topic for two weeks in a row. This is to ensure that the same topic is covered once during the day and once in the evening to accommodate school schedules.

There will be two age groups: 7-10 and 11-15 years old. While the same weekly topic will be offered to both age groups, the materials and activities will be tailored to fit the needs of the group.

Registration for each support group session opens one month in advance. See descriptions below.

The support group is free of charge.
