Support Groups

The stress of COVID-19 and complying with social distancing can make people feel isolated, anxious, and worried for the future. Connecting with others in a safe space through a video conference is one way we can share experiences, feel heard, remain hopeful, and manage stress at this time.

Caregivers Converse Support Group

Research has shown that caregivers of children with autism experience challenges that can lead to stress and isolation. Finding the time to care for your own physical and mental well being, meet others, and speak about your experiences can be challenging. Facilitated by our social worker, our caregiver support group aims to empower caregivers of children with autism by creating a safe space where you can share your experiences, as well as gain understanding and support from other caregivers with similar experiences.

Topics that will be covered include:

  • The importance of creating time and space to care for your physical and emotional well being
  • Creating realistic expectations and balancing the needs of your child and family members
  • Resolving conflict
  • Strategies to overcome isolation
  • Managing anger, anxiety, grief and stress
  • Sharing your child’s successes and learning from others’ experiences

Additional topics will be covered depending on interest. This is a place where you can help shape the content of the group based on your needs.

Support groups will be held one weeknight per month beginning in early May online through our WebEx video conferencing platform.  Specific dates and times for the meetings will be determined based on the number of registrants.

The support group is free of charge. Space is limited!
